A graxa forma uma camada fina de graxa na superfície de contato do elemento rolante, da pista e da gaiola, entrando assim no estágio de uso normal do rolamento. Neste momento, a temperatura cai gradualmente e atinge o equilíbrio. Em outras palavras, a lubrificação de longo prazo é suportada principalmente por essa camada de filme de graxa. Parte do óleo de base é separada e flui para a pista para complementar a lubrificação. Os contornos das diferentes graxas formadas nos mancais são diferentes.
